2022 Hyundai Kona N SUV Review: A Bit Too Much?
Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. Last year I tested the new Ford Puma ST and whilst it had the face of an overexcited frog that would probably fail a drug test, it proved to be good fun and practical, making a solid all-round package. It’s now under threat from this, though, the new Hyundai Kona N.
This is the result of what happens when you slipped a pumped-up Kona bodyshell over the same running gear from the very successful i30N hot hatchback. This means it’s powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot, which is good for 280hp and 392Nm of torque.
This power is fed to the front wheels much like the i30N, but unlike the i30N, the Kona N is only available with the 8-speed DCT. 0-62 can be over and done with in as little as 5.5 seconds, and the top speed is approaching 150mph. Not bad for a car that started life out as a sensible, practical family crossover.
The problem is, is it all a bit too much?
