Mazda kicks off its SUV foray with the 2023 CX-60 for Europe, Japan and other markets, although it looks familiar. But this is actually an entirely new model based on the rear-wheel drive structure known as the Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture. It serves as the company’s first plug-in hybrid. And it comes with the i-Activ AWD setup, which is primarily rear-wheel drive.
The PHEV model will be the first to come to market combining a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. Mazda says the combustion engine is good for 189 hp (141 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 261 Nm (193 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. As for the electric motor, it’s rated. At 134 hp (100 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) combined, the e-Skyactiv produces 323 hp (241 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).
